Soil vs. Survival: How We De-Risk the Transition to Regenerative Agriculture 📉🌱

Imagine you are a farmer standing on 4 acres of land in Chikkanayakanahalli. You’ve just returned from the city to live on your farm. You test your soil, and the results are heartbreaking: Less than 0.2% Soil Carbon.

There is no irrigation source. Your coconut yields are barely enough to sustain you.

This was the reality for our partner, Manoj Kumar MB, when he started his journey at his farm in Chikkenahalli.

He faced the classic dilemma that forces thousands of farmers into a corner every year:

  1. The Short-Term Fix: Switch to intensive chemical farming to force a high yield immediately, sell at market price, and survive.

  2. The Long-Term Cure: Choose regenerative agriculture to heal the land. But this takes years, and as Manoj noted, "we don’t see anything yet" in the early stages.

How do you survive the years it takes for the soil to heal?

This is where Sarvaani steps in. Our mission is to de-risk the farmer's transition to exclusive regenerative agriculture by equipping them with the technology and markets to become self-sufficient Farmer Manufacturing Units (FMUs).

THE "FINANCIAL BRIDGE": GANGA NATURALS Manoj chose the natural path. To support his decision, we helped him establish Ganga Naturals, an FMU dedicated to producing wood-pressed oils using Sarvaani’s strict SOPs for health, hygiene, and honesty.

Even though his soil is still recovering, Manoj is now a manufacturer. This FMU provides the critical financial bridge, allowing him to ignore the lure of chemical fertilizers and instead focus on what matters:

  • Biochar & Pyrolysis: He is producing biochar at the farm level to create a "carbon battery" for his soil, permanently locking in carbon and creating a habitat for microbes.

  • Livestock & Cover Cropping: Integrating animals and plants to restore biodiversity.

THE FUTURE IS CLOSED-LOOP Manoj isn't just stopping at production. His goal this year is to grow five types of oil seeds right on his 4-acre farm, moving toward a truly closed-loop system where he processes what he grows.

At Sarvaani, we believe that you cannot ask a farmer to save the planet if they cannot first save their livelihood. By empowering Manoj to capture value at the farm gate, we ensure that Regeneration First isn't just a slogan—it’s a viable business model.
